Sinus Lift

Today, dental implants can be performed even in the most advanced stages of tooth loss, but many are unaware of the fact that before each implant a number of preliminary procedures must be performed. Thus, in some cases a sinus lift is required that allows for the creation of a normal and suitable environment for the implant to be inserted. The problem exists mainly in the upper back teeth, because in this area in the first place there is little bone area on which the implants can be placed.

How is a sinus lift procedure performed?

The essence of the sinus lift procedure is to thicken the bone within its cavity, in order to allow proper implant absorption. Another name by which this process is recognized is bone grafting. In practice, different materials can be used to achieve the goal. Sometimes self-bone is implanted, in other cases synthetic material is implanted and sometimes – animal bone. The adjustment is in each case to his body, depending on the personal characteristics of each body and its ability to receive the material properly. The process makes it possible to prevent situations of rejection of the implant due to a lack of bone mass that causes inflammatory developments (sinusitis).

The sinus lift is performed in one of the following ways:

Open sinus lift – In situations of severe bone deficiency in the posterior upper jaw, a lateral opening should be opened in the bone area and through which the bone graft material can be inserted. Drill a hole in the side of the jaw and insert the replacement into the sinus cavity against the floor. This method is suitable when the bone is thinner than 5 mm.

Closed Lift – This procedure is preferable and possible when the bone deficiency condition is not very severe. The bone material is implanted from the oral cavity and through the same small opening through which the dental implant will eventually be inserted as well. The procedure is performed from the oral cavity, not from the side. The bone is inserted through an opening under the bone, through which the implant will also be inserted in the next step.

Our ability today in the world of dentistry to use dental implants for optimal correction of missing dental conditions, replacement of dentures and the like in these, is without a doubt a real revolution. But for implant treatment to be successful and possible, sufficient bone tissue in the jaw is needed. As a solution to this problem, which is mainly common in the upper posterior teeth, a sinus lift procedure has been developed which allows the implant to be inserted, its successful absorption and the risk of sinus damage to be reduced. EasyDent offers an innovative and effective model for professional, sophisticated, customized and inexpensive dental treatments compared to the Israeli market – all with full guidance and support and with leading clinics.

The maxillary sinus

Sinus lift treatment is performed in the maxillary sinus, a sinus cavity located at the top of the jaw and above the posterior teeth. Various conditions such as structure, teeth that have been missing for long periods and so on can cause a condition of bone loss in the maxilla (upper jaw) and that the maxillary sinus will be closer to the area of the upper posterior teeth and not have enough bone tissue to allow quality and durable dental implant.

Along with the fact that insufficient bone tissue does not allow optimal conditions for the absorption of the implant, inserting a dental implant into the sinus cavity will cause inflammation and infections in the sinuses, an undesirable phenomenon which can be accompanied by pain and other problems and of course cause transplant failure.

The solution: Enlarge bone tissue through sinus lift treatment

‍In these situations described above, the solution is manifested in sinus lift treatment which through alternative bone tissue transplantation “raises” the maxillary sinus from the gums and allows for more efficient and safer transplantation. This procedure has been performed for over two decades and is now considered safe, effective and very common in situations that require bone grafting before dental implants are inserted.

Sinus lift involves creating an opening in the gums at the exact location of the dental implant insertion. By precise and delicate means, the sinus tissue is detached from the existing bone tissue, and a dedicated biological material is applied that protects the sinus tissue and facilitates the healing process. Through the opening created, the cavity is filled with bone-like material, thus lifting the sinus and thickening the existing bone tissue so that it is possible to place a dental implant area in a successful, safe and efficient manner.

After the recovery and fixation of the artificial bone implant, the dental implant treatment can be completed, a crown installed on it and an aesthetically pleasing and fully functional artificial tooth can be obtained.
